Eilean Shona X Forward Prizes for Poetry: an exciting new fellowship

We are thrilled to announce a new collaboration between the Forward Prizes for Poetry and the Eilean Shona writing programme, courtesy of Vanessa Branson. This unique fellowship will be awarded to one outstanding poet from this year’s shortlist, consisting of a week-long residency on the breathtaking Scottish island.

Both Forward Arts Foundation and Vanessa Branson recognise the enormous value of poetry and the parallel need for writers to have time to develop their work. This partnership therefore marks a significant step in our shared mission to nurture emerging poets, while offering them an opportunity to hone their craft in an inspiring environment. 

During the fellowship, which will take place in February 2025, the selected poet will participate in an exclusive writing workshop led by accomplished writers. Immersed in nature and surrounded by enchanting wildlife, the retreat will also offer them an opportunity to give their writing valuable time and space.

The winner of the fellowship will be announced following the Forward Prizes for Poetry ceremony, at Gala Theatre, Durham, on 10th October 2024. You can read more about the event and buy tickets here, available both in-person and via livestream.
